What Sports Fans [and me] Can Be Thankful For on This Thanksgiving

SPANISH HARLEM – Today is Thanksgiving and a favorite holiday to so many in America (although mine is Christmas). It’s usually a very special day when family comes together to eat and drink and eat some more. I know it will be difficult for many of you with COVID-19 making the rounds again the last couple of weeks but If you do have your family around, make the most of it, be safe and enjoy every minute of it. It’s also a day to give thanks and be happy for the things that life (or God) has given you up to this point. It has been one of the worst years that the world has seen in a long time but today… let’s try our best to look on the bright side. I’m happy for a lot of things and when it comes to sports, here’s the thing that I give thanks for…

Games Being Played Again

In March, the sports world was completely shut down. The NBA, along with the NHL, decided to suspend the regular season and Major League Baseball shut down in Spring Training before the real games would be played. That’s without knowing what would happen with the National Football League and their upcoming season. It was a difficult couple of months not knowing if we would ever have sports again in 2020, but somehow things worked out.

It hasn’t been pretty. We only had a partial baseball season and the bubble worked for both basketball and hockey, which allowed both leagues to finish their seasons. The NFL had some setbacks and yet they started their season on time and all without the fans… Now some sports are allowing fans, safety is always a concern but all parties are doing the best they can to give the fans something they can follow again.

We are not out of the woods yet. The NFL had some COIVD calendar chaos this week  and there will be some more hard times ahead. The American sports landscape is now constantly evolving/shifting due to the pandemic.

It is a weird time but again, I’m thankful we have sports, in any incarnation, back. The game is still the game. You watch, get involved, get pissed but root for your team no matter what. It’s fun and it will always be fun, that is what make sports so great.
