EL BARRIO, EL FALLS – Happy Monday! I can’t tell you how busy I have been. As I mentioned in the comments a few posts back, I have to watch almost all my sports through highlights – which is good because it is fast but means I really have to avoid reports during the day. Anyway, here’s the slate for today: Rangers Eliminated, Jack Del Rio, Mets’ West Coast Trip.
Rangers Eliminated
The NY Rangers have been eliminated from the quest for Lord Stanley’s Cup. The problem with being the cardiac kids is eventually you get one cardiac attack you can’t comeback from. In their fifth elimination game of the postseason, the Rangers fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Different Matt covered this on Saturday… The Blueshirts never led in the previous two series, in terms of the number of games won, but in this one, they went up by 2-0 in the series. However, game 3 was the difference and the game-changer. After going 2-0 in game three, they got sloppy and let the Lightning back into with a goal in the second period. Then they allowed a tying one to start the third and game-winner with less than a minute left. There would be three more games but the Rangers are still learning to win. Against a very wily veteran side like Tampa Bay, it just has a certain amount of belief and reminds all why they are back-to-back champions.
From that game on, Tampa won the next three by bigger score lines and it’s over… the Rangers off to the links.
If you told me that that Rangers would make the Eastern Conference final at the start of the season, I would have taken it. Heck, I expected a second round exit. So I am happy with that and understand they still need to make two or three changes in personal but they have a very strong core and will definitely be back next season.
Jack Del Rio
“I can look at images on the TV, people’s livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down, no problem. And then we have a dust-up at the Capitol, nothing burned down, and we’re going to make that a major deal. I just think it’s kind of two standards, and if we apply the same standard and we’re going to be reasonable with each other, let’s have a discussion. That’s all it was. Let’s have a discussion.”
Some dudes never learn… You coach in a league that is 75% black! Your league settled with Colin Kaepernick. They have been having a campaign to show that they are more racially sensitive, and you coach a franchise that is teetering on a scandal and you decide to open your mouth. What could possibly be in your head that would make you think that was a good answer or it was a good idea to answer at all? Just pass and say you decided not to comment on it. Now he has been fined and deleted his Twitter. I really feel sorry for the Commanders’ public relations guy, who probably choked on his meal as he heard the words come out Del Rio’s mouth.
NY Mets West Coast Road Trip
The Mets won on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Orange County of the State of California. The 4-1 win helped the Mets finish the west coast road trip 5-5. The Amazins did enough on the left coast to keep their shrinking lead in the NL East, despite the Braves and Phils being red-hot. It is a strange feeling as a Mets fans because, you keep waiting for the bottom to drop out but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I am gonna try to just enjoy the match and not worry about when it will end.
