Mets’ Not Folding, Yankees Need to Right Ship, Deshaun Watson Settlement

EL BARRIO, EL FALLSHappy Monday. These are the real dogs days of summer that means Major League Baseball steals the spotlight from other sports, as they are not in full swing. The NFL has pre-season but all the BIG signings are done and all you be have are crappy exhibition games. With that, here is what we will talk about today…. Mets’ Not Folding, Yankees Need to Right Ship, Deshaun Watson Settlement.

Mets’ Not Folding

I am shocked by these NY Mets. After losing 3 out 4 against the Braves, it felt like the Mets run was going to end. They have a record that almost assures they make the playoffs. However, there is this fear (ALL METS FANS HAVE IT) that after they lost those games to Atlanta, it was going to be the beginning of the end… The long-awaited collapse would begin. Then, I would see them stumble into the playoffs and lose the divisional series. However, these are not the same old Mets, they went to Philadelphia and won three out of four to keep their lead, actually extend the lead to four games, even. Again, I am not saying they will win it all, but these Mets don’t seem to buckle or get down on each other. They just dig deeper as the pressure comes and find a way to get it done. The unsung heroes on this team – for me – have been in the bullpen. People take about Edwin Diaz, but what about Seth Lugo, Trevor Williams and the rest of the gang. They deserve a lot of credit.

Yankees Need to Right Ship

The Yanks have nearly double the lead of the Mets as they are up 8 games up on the 2nd place Blue Jays – after finally winning yesterday. However, the concern is that Sunday’s win simply denied the Blue Jays the sweep. Worse, it was only their 3rd out of the last 17. That is a VERY BAD STREAK.  It’s not just my opinion, it’s a historic swing from records before the All-Star break to records after it. The thing with a bad streak like that is it works on the guys’ mentality. A player beats out a throw to first and then it plays on guy’s mind, as the double play ball fails. Little things like gets players wondering if and how they will lose. Once teams believe that they may lose, they often do. Aaron Boone cant seem to find the answer on the Analytics Computer about how to deal with poor play. The Yankees will likely make the playoffs but no one wants to be backing in. Meanwhile, sharp objects have been removed from the homes of Buddy Diaz, Different Matt and Ben Whitney.

Deshaun Watson Settlement

The NFL will keep trying to pretend they care about women – but they don’t. I hope we all know that by now. In the end, Deshaun Watson lost 2.1% of his pay and was suspended for 2/3 of the season. If it seems VERY insufficient for sexual misconduct against 35 women, it’s because it clearly is. The Browns get a great return on the QB for a decade and their guy will take snaps this season, regardless of his off-field problems. There are so many things wrong with all of this but that’s way things work.

Thanks for reading and feel free to comment below. Come back tomorrow for the aforementioned Ben Whitney, who will pick apart my Yankees comment.
