Hurley To Lakers? Mets Still Stink Overseas, U.S. Open Picks/Preview

PORT JEFFERSON,  NY – Greetings, let’s hop right into today’s topics. Hurley To Lakers? Mets Still Stink Overseas, U.S. Open Picks/Preview

Hurley To Lakers?

Fresh off back to back National Championships at Uconn, Dan Hurley is being strongly linked to becoming the next Lakers head coach. I’m not sure this is the ideal time for Hurley to jump ship. LeBron has been very non-committal with how much longer he’s going to play or how much longer with the Lakers. Hurley will face immense pressure right out the gate should he become the coach and if he doesn’t have immediate success, the majority of the blame will be placed on Hurley. He’s established himself as the top coach in the nation and I don’t think this is the perfect opportunity for him to make the jump to the NBA.

Mets Still Stink Overseas, Too

The Mets lost the first of a quick two game set in London to the Phillies. I’m not sure how many Mets fans regained hope following their sweep of the Nationals, however this series against Philadelphia is a shell shock back to reality. I understand they’re only four games back of the final Wild Card spot in a particularly weak National League. However, this team is not good enough to contend. The trade deadline is a little less than two months away and I think we see several players moved including Alonso, Severino, Manaea, Martinez and likely more.

U.S. Open Picks/Preview

Jacob Sternberg

Welcome to U.S. Open week.

The 124th U.S. Open takes place this week at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Scottie Scheffler. Unless Scheffler is arrested again, he’s likely winning by 5 shots. He currently leads the Memorial by four heading into the final round. A win would be his 5th of the season and would make him the first player since Tiger to win five times before the month of July. There isn’t much to say he’s on an absolute historic run and he’ll be must see TV at Pinehurst this week as he searches for his first U.S. Open.

Xander Schauffele. The 2024 PGA champion finally broke through winning his first major last month at Valhalla. Xander is playing the best golf of his career and with an emphasis on accuracy off the tee and touch around the greens, Pinehurst sets up perfectly for Schauffele to go back to back in major championships.

Bryson DeChambeau. Perhaps the most polarizing player in golf today, Bryson has had an excellent season on the LIV tour and in both major championship appearances finishing T-6 at Augusta and 2nd at the PGA Championship. Pinehurst has historically rewarded accuracy off the tee and excellent putting, Dechambeau’s unique ability to club down while still hitting the ball longer then most should set him up perfectly to contend for his second U.S. Open Championship.
