Bring Back Brian Daboll? CFP Madness

PORT JEFF, NYHappy New Year everyone. Let’s jump right into topics: Bring Back Brian Daboll? CFP Madness

Bring Back Brian Daboll?

Come Monday morning, the New York Giants will have quite a few decisions to make. Whether they beat the Eagles on Sunday or not, there is a lot of uncertainty about who will be in charge next year. I would prefer to keep Brian Daboll. When he was hired in 2022, he was given one of the worst rosters in the league. Since that magical season which saw the G-Men win a playoff game, GM Joe Schoen has made some really questionable decisions – to say the least. Letting Saquon Barkley walk was not one of them. The O-line still has its problems, and we would be having the same conversations as last year. I am talking about things like letting a homegrown star in his prime like Xavier McKinney walk to Green Bay and not having a suitable backup.

Speaking of suitable backups, we were all aware of the injury history and poor play from Daniel Jones. That is why in 2022 and 2023 they had a reliable backup in Tyrod Taylor, who they had no excuse to let walk in the offseason. Coming off a torn ACL, we knew Jones could not be the same as he was prior to injury. So why not keep a proven vet in Taylor? And to make matters worse, he gives the backup role to Drew Lock? The Giants have shot themselves in the foot multiple times by simply not making the right decision – even when it was staring them in the face. My final issue with Schoen is that for two years the Offensive Line has been a train wreck. Evan Neal, who was Schoen’s first pick as the Giants’ GM, is barely playable. Outside of Andrew Thomas at LT, the entire line is still a massive question mark.

CFP Madness

The College Football Playoff was/were quite the spectacle over the past 48 hours in college football. We finally witnessed a game that lived up to the hype, as Arizona State and Texas battled for over 60 minutes on Wednesday. Quarterbacks Sam Levitt and Quinn Ewers were both outstanding. However, the game was not without controversy, as per a late targeting non-call. Had it been made correctly; the Sun Devils could have secured of the biggest upsets in the CFP.

The nightcap on Wednesday saw The Ohio State dominate the top-ranked Oregon Ducks. Ohio State seems determined to make the dreadful loss to Michigan a distant memory.

This brings us to Thursday’s game, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday but postponed due to tragic events in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the city and the victims.

Georgia faced Notre Dame in a standalone match-up where the Irish landed the first punch and never looked back. The Bulldogs were without their QB Carson Beck, who was injured in the SEC Championship. The Fighting Irish won 23- 10 and play Penn State next.

Drop your thoughts below and don’t miss Aristotle “Mugsy” Sakellaridis tomorrow.
