SPANISH HARLEM – The Knicks head coaching search started with roadblocks when the Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks declined the Knicks request to speak with their respective head coaches yesterday. Definitely not what you want to hear if you are a Knicks fans, but I assume things with will get more interesting in the days to come.
It was said by some in the media that Jason Kidd has interest in the Knicks opening and he previously requested that he be traded to Milwaukee from New Jersey when he was with the Nets so it’s not impossible. The more plausible choice would be for the organization to extend their search to coaches that are not actively on any NBA teams, but it didn’t hurt to ask if they really wanted Kidd.
So far, there hasn’t been any mention of Mike Malone so I doubt that he will interview at any point this offseason. Which brings me to my original choice of Johnnie Bryant, though his name hasn’t been floated in the media. I fully expect him to get an interview at some point with possibly Mike Brown getting a look as well.
