Mets Finally Win
The Mets finally held onto a lead and beat the Mariners 3-1 on Saturday. Rookie Nolan McLean was sensational in his debut, firing 5.1 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. Despite the win, this has been one of the worst stretches I can ever remember a Mets team going through.
After yesterday’s win they improved to 3-14 in their last 17 games, by far the worst in baseball over that stretch. It goes back even farther then that, since the All-Star Break they have been the worst team in baseball. They’ve simply done nothing well. The starting pitching, bullpen and lineup have all been dreadful. There’s simply no one to blame other then the players. They went out and made several moves to position themselves for a deep run and those moves have flat out failed. Despite the nightmare stretch, the Mets still hold the last Wild Card spot over the Reds by 1.5 games and trail the Phillies by 5 games in the division. There isn’t much else to say at this point, right now this just isn’t a good baseball team.
Dart Shines Again
I know it’s just the preseason, however, Jaxson Dart has looked very impressive in both his appearances. On Saturday against the Jets, Dart went 14-16 for 137 yards and a TD. I think with Brian Daboll at the helm, he has a real shot at being a good QB with the weapons this team has on offense. I have no idea when we’ll see Dart this year – if at all – given that Russell Wilson likely won’t bottom out this year. He won’t turn the ball over and he’ll play just well enough to win some games and be competitive but cap this team’s ceiling. I’d personally love to see Dart start right away but it’s in all likelihood we don’t see Dart until at least the second half of the year.
