EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Another one bites the dust. Brian Daboll has been mercifully fired as the Giants’ head coach and the team again has to pick up the pieces and start a new coaching search. With the heir apparent QB and some pieces in place, it’s time to get it right.
Brian Daboll (pronounced like “table” not “day ball,” for the record) has gone the way of Ben McAdoo, with a promising first year followed by total disaster.

Only the Titans had a crappier record over the last three years. Too many blown games and dust ups with assistants. He had to go. A recklessness with the young jedi and new hope Jaxson Dart likely sealed his fate.
Joe Schoen avoided the axe for now, likely due to the shrewd maneuvering that got Dart into the building, and a solid draft that included Cam Skattebo in round four and other promising picks.
I personally would have liked to see DC Shane Bowen exit stage left as well. The Giants used the first-round pick on Abdul Carter and invested their two biggest free agent signings on secondary help in Abedo and Holland. They were predicted by many to have a solid defense that could get after the quarterback.
But other than Brian Burns, that hasn’t happened. They’re 27th in the league, giving up a healthy 27.3 points per game, including a fork-load in the 4th quarter. The defense couldn’t stop an ice cream truck with a school bus full of kindergartens in brutally blown games to Dallas, Denver, and Chicago. If Wink Martindale were still the DC, they could easily be 6-4 or 5-5, right in the playoff hunt. Instead, it’s time to interview head coaches and try to figure out what went wrong. Bowen hasn’t had any answers.
The next coach can’t be a whiff, another strikeout to add to the golden sombrero of Shurmur, McAdoo, Judge, and now Daboll. Give Kafka a real shot to pull off The Metamorphosis, but if he doesn’t work out, give me someone who has a track record and will continue to develop Dart. No more unproven coordinators, I don’t care how great they interview.
The Giants have some pieces and could be one good offseason away from contention. Let’s fix this thing.
Come back tomorrow for Angry Ward.
