CANTON, OH – The 6th annual Thurman Munson Catcher Scholarship Award Dinner was held last week at the Doubletree in downtown Canton, Ohio and the greatest pitcher of our generation brought the house down with his aura and stories. The dinner, which was founded by Co-Chairman Steve Fettman, and has the blessing of the Munson family, keeps getting better and better. With the presence of “Canton’s Queen,” Diana Munson along with her family, Michael, Michelle, Bella and Tracy, you could feel Thurman’s spirit among the attendees.
Cleveland Indians Guardians fan favorite, pitcher 
along with Thurman’s bat boy, Ray Negron were the special guests. The Keynote Speaker was 7 time Cy Young Award Winner, Roger Clemens and his true grit reflected the “Munson Way.”
After Diana spoke, Clemens took over and emphasized on detail when he pointed to a photo of Diana’s grip of a baseball as she threw out a first pitch. He gave the audience a blueprint of his pitching prowess, and told stories of how he pitched to Reggie Jackson and picked the brain of his 1986 Red Sox teammate Tom Seaver.
The “Rocket Man” took a no-holds barred Q + A but the audience failed to fire any hardball questions.
This year’s scholarship awards went to Jakeb Beard and Avery McMahon. The lives of number one Thurman fan Adrienne Statfeld, and the legendary Tommy John were remembered. A letter that TJ wrote explaining his absence was read by Ted Doyle, which was followed by a standing ovation.
The legacy of number 15 is very much alive in his hometown with the efforts of Fettman, Tom Crank, Tim Haverstock and the backing of the Munson family.
