NIAGARA FALLS, NY – Happy Monday! I got a call Friday night from Short Matt – who normally only texts – that he is in Buffalo for UB Rugby alumni weekend. He says, I should come out on Saturday and he will text me the addresses. The text never came, I assume he got to drunk. Anyway, after shaming Short Matt, let’s look at today’s menu: Rays Sweep Mets, Knicks Draw Pacers, Rangers Draw First Blood.
Rays Sweep Mets
The Mets have officially cooled off. They are not as bad as they were the first week of the season but this was a tough last 3 games. They have gotten solid pitching but cant seem to get the clutch hit when it has been needed. The bullpen has not been helpful, and that was the story of the weekend. They marched out a debutante on Saturday and recycled struggling pitcher on Sunday. However, the Mets couldn’t hold the lead and late in the game the Rays got on base and churned out runs. The Mets are below .500 for the first time in a couple of weeks and haven’t been swept since the first week. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back.
Knicks Draw Pacers
The Knicks will face underdog Indiana in the second round. The Pacers were expected to lose to Milwaukee – the Bucks are not the same team from a couple of years ago and despite adding Damian Lillard and Head Coach Doc Rivers, they never seemed to gel. Indy present a team with more height and ball movement than the Sixers, so it remains to be seen if Thom Thibodeau will change his rotation. Mainly we will we see Precious Achiwa overtake Mitchell Robinson as the off the bench option. Thibs has always kept a short bench, so that will be a factor but he can’t expect 5 guys to go 43 minutes each game. The Knicks are the better team on paper and will likely win in 6.
Rangers Draw First Blood Against The Canes
The Rangers are 1-0 up in the series. They will be looking to go 2-0 up home and add pressure. It will be interesting to see if they continue to get contributions from each line and pairing. This is the deepest Ranger team, I have seen in years. I also feel this series between the Knicks and Canes will determine who will make the Stanley Cup final. I feel the Eastern Conference is gonna be wrapped up by whomever emerges out of this match-up. It seems funny, but if the Rangers can continuously get earlier goals achieved they will be a hard team to stop.
