STAMFORD, CT – The Jets and Giants got top draft grades, the Yankees and Mets have the best records in baseball, the Rangers open the playoffs on Tuesday – New York is back baby. Let’s get it.
Douglas and Schoen Get High Marks
Jets GM Joe Douglas claims he got three of the top eight players on their board. According to some observers, the Jets got the best CB, WR and all around DE. That’s not too shabby. They weren’t able to land Deebo or another established receiver, but Moore and Wilson have the potential to be a strong duo.
If Bechton can get it together and Zach can progress, the Jets could be on their way.
The Giants had a great first day. Some of their second day choices seem like reaches, as the Giants took them well before projections. Let’s hope new management knows what they’re doing.
Most of the criticism was for Wan’Dale Robinson and Cor’Dale Flott. Clearly the Giants strategy was to corner the market on names with an apostrophe in the middle followed by Dale. This was said to be the brainchild of new D-Coordinator Wink MartinDALE. Raise Hell, Praise Dale!
Robinson has a similar skill set to Kadarius Toney, which tells you how they feel about him. But, the stellar day one has me feeling slightly optimistic.
Yankees and Mets Leading the Pack
Going into to Monday, the Yanks’ 16-6 and the Mets’ 16-7 records were the top two in the league. It’s a small sample size, but they both feel like they might be legit. The Mets have scored the fourth most runs, Yankees fifth. Yankees have given up the second fewest runs, Mets the third fewest. Pretty impressive in both halves of the inning.
Sure, the Yankees beat up on cruddy competition over their current nine game streak. But not beating up on cruddy competition last year, specifically the Orioles, resulted in them playing in the wildcard game instead of winning their division.
If deGrom can get healthy, look out. Short Matt will be backtracking on Buck faster than my dog Chief backtracks when the fridge opens. He was in on Buck all along, guy.
Rangers Kick off Playoff Run
Again, the New York Rangers are in the conversation. Word is, Panarin and Copp will be ready to go. Igor is in net, and the Garden will be filled with hope.
As Andy Dufresne from Shawshank Redemption told Red, hope it a good thing. I hope the Rangers make it through the first round. I hope Panarin is ready to go. I hope Sidney Crosby’s blood is as red as has been in my dreams. I hope.
Let’s go Rangers.
