STAMORD, CT – The Yankees revamped the back end of their bullpen with an aggressive series of moves. Then all three newcomers got rocked on Friday in a brutal 13-12 loss to the Marlins, who went on to sweep the Yankees for the first time ever. The Giants camp seems to going okay but they have a serial killers row of a schedule to start the season and oddsmakers have their season over/under for wins at a measly 5.5. So the Giants can go over their projected wins and finish only 6-11. Fun times. But I’m putting on my blue rose colored glasses and looking for reasons to be optimistic.
Yanks
Brian Cashman seemed to have a solid trade deadline. He added 3 big arms to the pen, shored up 3B, and added some righty depth. ROY Luis Gil is back and they’re ready to roll.
Hold up. Suddenly they find themselves behind the Red Sox and only two games from falling out of a playoff spot.
But there is good news. The mighty Aaron Judge is already taking live swings and could be back quickly. Tough break for Big G Stanton, who’s getting hot, but El Capitan Grande is about to take the DH spot.
Judge’s return to the lineup could catalyze the offense back to their early season form. The new relievers settle in, find their roles and the team goes on a tear. Could happen.
Hey, Devin Williams just blew another save.
Giants

I can’t help but get a little fired up when I see Abdul Carter pulling nasty spin moves and living in the backfield. But then I remember that he’s going up against the Giants’ offensive line. They could make a weekend warrior look like the next Charles Jefferson from Ridgemont High. The man needs to prove it in a real game but so far he looks the part. Thanks God they didn’t reach for a QB at 3.
A crazy betting line I saw is the Giants are only +1200 to go under 1.5 wins. That means if the Giants only win one game, it only pays 12 to 1. In other words, Vegas thinks 1 win (or fewer, lord help us) is in play.
Ben Whitney
Russell Wilson was actually decent last year with Pickens for the firsr half of the season. With Malik Nabers and some decent weapons, he might be okay as a transition guy. If the pass rush goes off and the defense is solid, good things could happen.
That’s it for me. Angry Ward is on vacation but good things can still happen… if you come back tomorrow.
