NIAGARA FALLS, NY – Happy Monday... Mets fans aside. Yes, the Mets season is over, which is incredibly sad. With that, we’ll talk the flop and then pivot to a Jets Preview, and my last report on the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
New York Mets
The 2025 campaign came to a crashing halt, and there’s going to be a lot to unpack. It is still a bit stunning. For two and a half months, they were the best team in baseball. I mean, the last three and a half months since have been a slow-motion collapse. Key to that, of course, was that horrible streak of losing 13 of 17 games. But in typical Mets fashion, they waited till the last day for one final twist of the knife. Tied with the Reds, and with the Reds losing to the Brewers, all the Mets had to do was win and they were in. Their response was to lose to the Marlins, a team they lost far too much to this season and last. And the loss was a feeble one—a shutout when they needed the win, with a bunch of runners left on base over the course of the game.
Now comes the off-season and the dissection. It’s going to be ugly. I don’t know which way to go, and I don’t quite know who’s to blame because the collapse was just so spectacular. But it’s going to be a deep look at manager Carlos Mendoza and what happened with the pitching.
Jets Preview
An unstoppable force meets a movable object tonight when the Jets face the Dolphins in Miami. The Jets’ offense is still struggling to match the heights of Week 1. They will get QB1 Justin Fields back for this game, as he’s passed all the requirements for the concussion protocol. The Dolphins aren’t exactly defensive stalwarts, so most people are hoping that the Jets’ run game can get going, freeing up the passing game.
But the problem isn’t the Jets’ offense necessarily; it’s that the defense has been very poor. And considering Glenn is a former defensive player turned defensive coordinator who is now a head coach, there is a real concern over the lack of fingerprints on the defense and how it is clearly the weak link—especially the secondary, where Glenn was a former cornerback. Those issues are very clear, as he looks on at failures in the area that is his specialty. If the Jets defense can show up and hold the Dolphins to 24 points, I believe the offense should be able to get enough for the win.
Women’s Rugby World Cup

The Canadian women’s rugby team’s Cinderella run has ended. Unfortunately, they fell a little bit short of the mountain top, losing to the host nation and the number-two-ranked team in the world going into the World Cup. Considering the England team is fully professional, while the Canadian team is completely amateur, it was no surprise. But once again, Canada managed to surprise everyone, especially by beating the number one team in the world, New Zealand, to even make the final.
I think that’s what happens with an amateur team sometimes; you get that energy up and play that perfect game you need to make it to the final, and then you just don’t have enough in the bucket to do it another time. But it was a great tournament, it was a very good game, and I believe this was a great advertisement for women’s rugby and rugby in general.
