Mets Disastrous Offseason Continues, Knicks Reach NBA Cup Finals

PORT JEFF,  NY- No pleasantries this week, just talking points. Here they are: Mets Disastrous Offseason Continues, Knicks Reach NBA Cup Finals

Mets Disastrous Offseason Continues

Apparently, we’ve turned the clocks back about a decade with what’s transpired this offseason for the Mets. After trading away fan favorite Brandon Nimmo in a deal that still makes very little sense, the Mets have now allowed Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso to walk out the door with the latter not even receiving an offer. What is this team doing? Edwin Diaz has been the best closer in baseball since his arrival to Queens and received a fairly similar deal to the one the Mets gave Devin Williams, I can’t understand why they wouldn’t prioritize Diaz over Williams. Then there’s the Alonso situation which is even more egregious. Since coming up in 2019, Alonso has been the heart and soul of this team. Through good times and bad Alonso was always there to face the media, answer the tough questions and lead this team. How Steve Cohen could allow Alonso to leave is mind boggling to me. Alonso is this generations David Wright, you simply don’t let a guy like that walk out the door. On top of that, I don’t think the deal Alonso received from the Orioles was unfair in the slightest. We’re talking about one of the premier HR hitters in baseball and maybe the best one this franchise has ever had. I completely understand that changes needed to be made following the horrific 2025 season, but allowing two of your best players to walk away just doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe something big is coming, maybe they’ll sign Kyle Tucker or trade for Mason Miller and Fernando Tatis, but if Jorge Polanco is supposed to fill the void that Pete Alonso left I remain very pessimistic about the direction this franchise is heading in.

Knicks Reach NBA Cup Finals

The New York Knicks have finally reached a championship game… After defeating the Magic last night, they advanced to the NBA Cup to face the Spurs, who snapped the Thunder’s 16-game winning streak. In all seriousness, the Knicks, winners of five straight and nine of ten, look like the best team in the East. Jalen Brunson somehow is getting better and the core of players that struggled at times to find continuity last year has really hit its stride early on this year. In a year where there isn’t a typical super team in the East with the Celtics seemingly past there window and the Pacers missing Haliburton for the year, the Knicks have to make it happen this year as they look like the real class of the East.
