PORT JEFF, NY – We have stuff to discuss: St. Johns Does it Again, Spring Training Baseball on Horizon.
St. Johns Does it Again
The Johnnies have once again delivered a standout performance under Rick Pitino’s leadership. Last Friday, the Red Storm faced third-ranked UConn and, for the third consecutive time, defeated the Huskies. Earlier this season, it was noted how remarkable Pitino’s impact has been on a program and fan base that had endured years of heartbreaking losses. This truly marks a new era for St. John’s basketball. Currently ranked 17th in the nation, the Johnnies will travel to Providence to take on the Friars in a highly anticipated matchup that both fan bases have had circled since the offseason. The game will also mark the return of former Friar Bryce Hopkins, adding further intrigue as the Red Storm seek to avenge an early-season loss at Madison Square Garden.
Spring Training Baseball on Horizon

Pitchers and catchers have officially returned, marking that special time of year when pitchers and catchers report, a moment cherished by devoted baseball fans. The familiar sounds of the crack of the bat and the pop of the mitt evoke a renewed sense of passion, filling the air with hope and optimism. The Mets return with an array of new faces. However, their most prominent player, Francisco Lindor, may miss Opening Day due to a hamate injury in his hand. Early spring training often brings with it a host of injuries, whether it’s a pitcher experiencing shoulder tightness or a star shortstop suffering a broken hand. Nevertheless, the Mets remain optimistic that Lindor could be ready for the start of the season as they look to usher in a new era for the team.
In other notable MLB news, the Baltimore Orioles have signed former Met Chris Bassitt to a one-year deal. The team hopes to bounce back after a disappointing season last year and return to form.
Elsewhere, the Atlanta Braves will be without star right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach for at least the first two months of the season, as the team’s injury bug appears to have followed them into 2026.
