Sports Rain Man: Mets Hold At .500, MLB All-Star Rosters, Reese vs Clark for ROY

NIAGARA FALLS, NY Happy Monday! I hope everyone had as good a week as I did. I have been super busy with work – but in a good kind of busy – with loads of deals. So here’s today’s menu: Mets Hold At .500, MLB All-Star Rosters, Reese vs Clark for ROY.

Mets Hold At .500

Thanks to the best record for June, the Mets have been flirting with .500 for the past week. They have been at .500 or a game under or above this past week. We knew they couldn’t get hot like June in July. I do appreciate how guys like Mark Vientos, Jose Iglesias and Luis Torrens have found a way to be useful in the batter’s box and on the field. Angry Ward can finally layoff heckling Francisco Lindor as he has performed well along with Brandon Nimmo and JD Martinez. The Bullpen has been shaky but holding with guys like Jake Diekman, Reed Garrett and Dedniel Nunez, who I am not sure most Mets fans could pick out of a line-up. The starting pitching with a bunch of guys that have been 3-5s, their whole career; Jose Quintana is technically the ace, for pete’s sake, backed up in the rotation by the likes of Tylor Megill and Sean Manaea , It has been a real team effort and we have to be impressed with it and their first year manager, Carlos Mendoza. Now, is it the team coming together and GM David Stearns is owed an apology or is it the magic of San Grimace de Citifield. I believe in San Grimace.

Has the Grimace-effect faded out?

MLB All-Star Rosters

The All-Star rosters are out. Christian Walker of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Brent Rooker of the Oakland/Nomad A’s are considered the biggest snubs of the line-up. Of the ones that made it from the NY local teams, the Yankees have Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and Clay Holmes while the Mets sole representative is Pete Alonso who has been not having nearly as good a season as he normally does and probably should have been replaced by Lindor or Martinez. Either, I have to admit, I pay more attention to the Triple-A all-star game than this because of the coming attractions feel to the game. The league really should do like the NBA and have a rising starts softball game the day before.

Reese vs Clark for ROY

Junior Blaber

This maybe the most fiercest competition for ROY in WNBA history. Angel Reese just got named WNBA Rookie of the Month for June, as she is currently on an unprecedented streak for any player – rookie or not. 13 straight games of a double-double. Clark responded to this announcement by being the first rookie to record a triple double and lead her team to a comeback win over the reigning champs. Statistically, it looks like you have to give the edge to Reese, but Clark has had a team needing a more help and is trying to drag them to .500. We will see what the experts say at the end of the season.

Thanks for reading and come tomorrow to hear from the Ben Whitney, who will tell you how lucky the Yankees are to get three all-stars.
