MARLBORO, NY– One thing I know about myself: for as long as I can remember, losing at anything never sits well. This rule also applies to my favorite teams, the Boston Bruins and Dallas Cowboys. Especially when they were on the short end of games against the hated Montreal Canadians and New York Giants, respectively. After last week’s plan to pick double the amount of NFL games in order to pad the stats, I actually killed the winning percentage after a putrid 1-6-1 mark. Maybe I should find a new sport to give gambling advice on – like rugby. But my competitive spirit says stick with the NFL and go for the 4-0 sweep today with my Cheesy Bruin’s Free NFL Picks.
FAVORITE: Not meaning to poke fun at the Minnesota Vikings, but should they be favored by more than a field goal over anybody with the way their offense attempts to put points on the board? I know Adrian Peterson is due back for today’s game against the Colts, but the patchwork offensive line may have problems opening holes for the revitalized backfield. The spread sits at five as Las Vegas is expecting the Purple People Eaters to put pressure on the deep-dropping Andrew Luck on his keester and keep him there for most of the game. Today’s best bet: MINNESOTA -5 over Indianapolis
UNDERDOG: Jacksonville is a horrible football team who will be looking for a new coach at season’s end. They have lost eight in a row and just can’t get out of their own way. But you know one of my gambling theories is even the most challenged of football teams cover the spread a good percentage of the time. Today is the day the Jags do so against a familiar opponent in division foe Houston. The Texans don’t exactly blow anybody away so we’ll grab the handful of points here and hope for the best. Jacksonville (+5.5) over HOUSTON
OVER: Two NFC playoff-eligible teams having trouble scoring meet in Dallas for a prime time affair. Eventually these teams will need to open up the offense for a much needed confidence boost heading into the post-season. Dak Prescott has hit the rookie wall while Jameis Winston is playing with incredible control in his sophomore season. The Bucs and Cowboys have also been playing decent defense as of late but I’m bucking the trends in this game and looking for a big score. Tampa Bay/DALLAS OVER 46.5
UNDER: Remember when your parents would scream at you to wear your gloves and hat when running out the door to play football in the winter? Well the game time temperature is expected to be one degree in Chicago for Packers-Bears with 12-17 mph wind gusts. This might be a fun game to watch how the players deal with the climate. If there’s any team that knows how to play in this adverse weather it’s Green Bay but how many points can possibly be scored? I’m on the under in this one. Green Bay/CHICAGO UNDER 38.5
