STAMFORD, CT: Happy Belated Father’s Day to my fellow Dads. It’s my favorite job for sure. On the other hand, my Tuesday MTM gig did not make the top 10 of my list of favorite jobs, but did get an honorable mention. Today we’re going to wax poeticly about some crap or the other. Or is it wax prophetic? Wax prophylactic? One of those. Anyway, today we’ve got the Rafael Devers trade, and the NHL and NBA Finals on tap. Belly up to the bar.

Devers Divorce

Ben Whitney

No Yankees fan was sorry to hear the news that Rafael Devers was being shipped across the country and to the other league. Good riddance, that guy was a tough out for the Yanks. The beef that lead to the breakup started when Devers refused to play first base for their injured starter, after being unceremoniously bumped from 3B to DH with the signing of Bregman.

Seems like a bitch move to me. First base is not that hard, bro. And Devers and Bregman would have been a strong corner IF combo. It’s not like they’re moving him to center field. The top prize in the return package was lefty Kyle Harrison, a highly regarded young starter. With several top hitter prospects in the pipeline, the Sox could be building a strong, young team.

One thing is certain; they’re not scared to move on from their stars. The unofficial mission statement of the Patriots, “it’s better to trade a guy a year too early over a year too late” seems to have rubbed off on them. I apologize for using “rubbed off” in a sentence involving the Patriots. It was unintentional. We’ll see if this trade has a happy ending for the Red Sox. That one was on purpose.

NHL Finals

Tough loss for Edmonton in Game 5 and now they have to win two straight. But I wouldn’t count them out just yet, this team has bounced back from some tough playoff losses this year. They gave up six in their first two playoff games in losses to the Kings, then went on to win four straight.

I think the Oilers will win Game 6, probably in OT. But then they’ll go home and lose Game 7 in their own barn. I’d like to see Leon and Connor hoist a Cup, but it’s gonna be tough to win two against these Panthers.

NBA Finals

Everyone seems to think the Thunder will get it together and take this series. But I’m not so sure. Game 5 on Monday will obviously be pivotal, but either team can win two straight.

I feel like this is the Pacers year. Somehow they’re going to get two more wins, methinks. Mealsothinks the previous statement might look bad by the time you’re reading this. But I like to roll the dice. (Tuesday note, the Thunder took care of business and lead 3-2).

Like the guy who’ll be here tomorrow, Angry Ward.
