SPANISH HARLEM, NY – The Golden State Warriors on Monday swept the San Antonio Spurs, I’m sure to the delight of our very own Angry Ward but I ask you this question. How Happy can you be when all this was expected from the beginning of the season. Is it a modest happiness or are you ecstatic? Anyhow, not many thought the Spurs had a chance after losing Kawhi Leonard in the first game of the series and they were right, the Warriors put their foot on the throttle and won the series easily in 4 games. Some people will bring up the big lead the Spurs had before losing Leonard but those are the brakes, life is not fair sometimes but the Spurs are a championship organization and will do everything they can to position themselves for another run.
The one sad thing about seeing the Spurs lose this series will be the questions of Manu Ginóbili’s possible retirement. If he does retire, I want to say Thank You for being an exciting player and great teammate. While I haven’t seen you play as much as I would’ve liked, I did appreciate your unselfish approach to your team and the game of basketball. I hope to see you back next season but if you decide to retire, I will always remember you for contorting your body in unimaginable ways just to score points in the paint. I will miss playing with your likeness in NBA 2k and seeing your greatness unfold in the game as it did in real life. Gracias Amigo!
Now on to the Cavs…
LeBron James was back to his old tricks on Tuesday, showing the world that when he sets his mind to it, he can be the best basketball player in the world. A lot was said on social media regarding LeBron’s performance on Sunday against the Celtics, when he only scored 11 points. As with everything LeBron does, Michael Jordan became a topic of discussion. Mainly, how Jordan is the better player and wouldn’t allow his team to lose the way James’ did, letting the Cleveland Cavaliers give up a 20+ lead after halftime and lose the game on a last second shot by Avery Bradley.
Did James’ take a game off or was he just going with the flow? On Sunday the Cavs were up by as much as 25 points without the help of LeBron James; many say he was took the game off. Everyone watching thought that game was in the bag, so maybe he was going with the flow, as his team was up big and realizing others were excelling without his help. I would say it was a little bit of both. Realizing his team was playing well, James decided to step back and let others be dominant. It wasn’t a bad call by him but it certainly came back to bite him as he was nonexistent down the stretch in the 4th quarter when his team needed him the most. That’s Lebron’s problem… he loves to share the ball and wants his teammates to excel even if it comes at the price of not being the best player on that particular night. Its noble and all but it’s not what his fans or basketball fans in general want to see. They want to watch him dominate every game… because he can!
