HOLBROOK, NY – Welcome to the weekend, which marks the start of a decent sports weekend. Here are today’s talking points to kick it off: Mets Get Hot, Giants Draft Strategy, Knicks Ready For Playoffs
Mets Get Hot
the Mets were 0-5 and seemed destined for another hopeless season in Queens. BUT THEN… something weird happened. Things started to go right?! Crazy! Things turned for the better despite the on-paper rotation, which is missing ace Kodai Senga. It has been as good as any team’s so far, led by Luis Severino, Sean Manaea and the emergence of Jose Butto. It has been a pleasant surprise 18 games into the season. Other areas of success are the bullpen and defense.
The pen has been anchored by a returning Edwin Diaz, Brooks Raley and… Reed Garrett?! Garrett has been one of the biggest surprises in all of baseball, not just the Metsies.
The defense has also been a refreshing sight, with Gold Glove caliber defenders in Harrison Bader and Francisco Lindor up the middle, and Starling Marte or Tyrone Taylor and Brandon Nimmo in the corners. The leather-flashing has been spectacular and will only get stronger with more time.
Giants Draft Strategy
It seems like all the Giants do nowadays is count down to the draft. Let’s dive in to see who they should pick:
There are a bunch of different directions that the G-men can go:
-They could try and trade up and get one of the top 3 QBs in the draft
-They could also draft a dynamic WR (Marvin Harrison JR, Malik Nabers)
-They could once again draft an Offensive lineman and hope the line has some stability
What they SHOULD do is try and move up and grab one of the premier QBs – Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye – and hope that one of them can save them from the Daniel Jones contract. The Giants can get out of Jones contract after this season, even if it means eating 40 million dollars in dead cap space.
Who knows what Big Blue will actually do in the draft, but, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I trust Joe Schoen and think he will get the Giants back to where they belong.
Knicks Ready For Playoffs
It has been awhile since a Knicks team has been THIS good. Jalen Brunson has been a culture changer. Along with additions of other ‘Nova guards Josh Hart and Donte Divincenzo, the Knickerbockers have become what many fans thought they would be when Carmelo Anthony & Co came to town about a decade ago. This version will play the 76ers in the first round of the playoffs. The Sixers have had an injury-riddled season, losing star Joel Embiid for months at a time. Thus, they were in a play-in game.
The Knicks should win this series in 6.
