TAMPA BAY, FL – Are You ready for some Football? Today we will cover the NFL Kickoff, The US Open sparking my interest and a look back at Small Matt’s Big Break.
The NFL kickoff will be in Tampa Bay this Thursday, when Tom Brady, The Goat, takes on Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. While many of you will opt to watch reruns of Sheriff Lobo, the rest of the world will be rooting for America’s Team to win or get crushed. TB12 and company look to repeat as Super Bowl Champions and what better way to start things off than matching up against one of the worst defenses in NFL history. While many believe these Cowpokes are vastly improved, I believe that Dallas has not improved its pass rush or defensive backfield enough to compete with the likes of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown and Gronk, along with a ground game featuring Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones. History shows that there are only two ways to defeat Tom Brady. The first is to apply pressure up the middle with a strong rush. The second is to simply out score him. The ladder would be this version of Jerry’s Kids only shot at sinking Captain Tom’s Pirate Ship.
Dak Prescott has not seen any live action since Big Blue broke his leg last October. The Cowboys strategy of not giving their franchise quarterback any reps in pre-season will come back to haunt Dallas this Thursday. Yes, I know that his receiving corps may be the most talented in the league on paper, but proof is in the proverbial pudding and on the scoreboard. Amari Cooper, Cee Dee Lamb and Michael Gallup match up well against the Tampa DB’s but Ezekiel Elliott needs to force the Bucs safeties to help with the run in order for Prescott to get the ball into the hands of his wideouts. Three and Outs will kill them for sure. Minimizing Tommy’s time on the field is imperative for this game to remain competitive. Now for my prediction. Tampa Bay 35 Dallas 20
Who is Shelby Rogers? I don’t know but she is today’s tennis household name after defeating the #1 ranked women’s player, Ashleigh Barty. I was just taking a short break from writing my weekly swill, and came upon a match in its final minutes. Rogers an American coming off recent knee surgery , forgot that she was ranked 43rd and took the Number One Seed Aussie into the tie breaker phase, where the first one to 7, winning by two, was moving on. Utilizing a great backhand and a successful first serve, she was able to do just that. I have to admit that I was impressed regardless of the fact that I will most likely not watch another minute of the Open.
Small Matt shares a bloodline with yours truly and one of the traits passed down is certainly not humility. That is probably why he became an ICON in the World of Rugby. This started about thirty years ago when young Matt got his first break doing play by play at a family decathlon in Hudson County Park. While I was not in attendance that day, I did find this historic gem on You Tube. This was the birth of his alternative ego Johnathan Wicklow Barbarie .
Chime in with your delusional opinions and be sure to come back tomorrow for a man who loves a good decathlon, Junoir Blaber.
