NEW YORK, NY – The Knicks host the Pacers tonight in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, as idiots all around the city plan on celebrating every single home team bucket like it’s the final out of Game 7 of the World Series. That’s how basketball starved this city is. New York has rabid fans across all sports, but hoops holds a special place. So, every 20 years or so when the Knicks rise from the dead, the city awakens and goes completely mental. I like this Knicks team (they’re actually incredibly likable) so I’ll wish them well, even though I can’t stand the thought of Dolan and Spike having something to celebrate. That’s about it for me on the Knicks today. I’ll let the professionals handle it from here on out. Wait, I lied, one quick thing.
The Knicks Will Win the Championship if… Here it is, plain and simple. The Knicks need to beat the Pacers, and don’t drag it out. Then they gotta hope Minnesota beats OKC. If the Knicks play the T-Wolves in the Finals, they are winning it all. Just wanted to make that clear. Okay, what else?
The Unbeat-a-Bills? I just read that there’s one team favored to win every game on their schedule this year, and that team is everyone’s favorite sadsacks from Western New York, the Buffalo Bills. You know what? I hope they win every game. Unless you’re a long-suffering fan of the Bills, is there really any reason to dislike them? I can’t really think of one. And, though it certainly won’t happen, they’d be a great team to have an undefeated season. It would drive the Dolphins d-bags crazy. Let’s do this, Buffalo!
Go Canada! It’s come down to one team to rescue this NHL season from the ash heap of history, and that team is the Edmonton Oilers. It’s simple math really. Other than Edmonton, the teams left in the playoffs are Carolina, Florida, and Dallas. (I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.) We just can’t have one of those teams winning the Stanley Cup. Please. It’s up to you, Edmonton, you hosers. You can start by beating the holy hell out of the Stars. That would please me to no end. Thanks, in advance.
Wilmer Gone Wild. Former New York Mets fan fave Wilmer Flores, has really found a home in San Francisco. And this year, he’s really off to a torrid start. He’s got 10 home runs and is leading the league in RBIs with 42. The other night against JG Clancy’s A’s he had an epic 9-pitch at-bat against Athletics fireballer Mason Miller and eventually drew a walk to push across the winning run. It’s easy rooting for a player like Wilmer. Glad he’s still playing the game a loves and playing it well.
That’s all for today. Come back tomorrow for Buddy Diaz, who will surely be doing a recap of Knicks/Pacers Game 1.
