BRONX, NY – Happy New Year’s Eve, all! I have zero plans for this evening, unless you consider sitting on the couch with my dog and watching Hot Dog: The Movie “plans.” While I don’t begrudge those who still enjoy getting dressed up and going out to some fancy party somewhere, I don’t envy them either. I like spending time with friends, but my NYE “I’ll consider your invite” sphere is limited to a few blocks from my place, aka, “walking distance.” Whatever you end up doing, have fun and be safe. Let’s talk some sports.
The Day of Diggs. It wasn’t actually a banner Tuesday for the NFL’s Diggs brothers. While it was reported that New England’s always-mercurial receiver Stefon is facing strangulation and assault charges, his brother, Dallas DB Trevon, was released by the Cowboys. Not exactly the way to finish Christmas and start the New Year. Both guys are undeniably talented Pro Bowl players, but at some point Stefon becomes more trouble than he’s worth, and Trevon may not be the same player after a couple of injury-plagued seasons. Now that Patriots get to play a fun waiting game to see if the NFL decides to make any sort of disciplinary move prior to Stefon’s January 23rd arraignment date.
Vikings Blew It. If ever there were a year for a mediocre team to make the playoffs, get hot at the right time, and win a Super Bowl they otherwise have no business winning, this was the one. And, yes, given what I’ve seen from every single so-called front-running team this year, I honestly think my Minnesota Vikings might have had a shot… for once. Their defense, for one, is playing about as well as any in the league. They finally have a kicker they can count on! That’s unheard of in Minnesota! Oh well, at least they aren’t the Jets.
Contract the New York Jets. This team is serving no purpose at all. Even in a sea of 2025 malaise, the Jets still found a way to sink to new lows. Their game against New England this past Sunday even had long comatose Gang Green supporters losing their sh!t. New York/New Jersey already have the Giants, and that should be good enough for Metro-area fans craving their yearly dose of disappointment. At least the Giants win something every once in a blue moon. The Jets need to go… and now. No one will miss them, believe me. You can show draft day bloopers for those that are.
In final football news, I can’t wait to see the Sunday Night Football “Who Want’s It Less Bowl” between the Ravens and the Steelers for the highly-coveted AFC North crown. I have total faith that Todd Monken will find a way to mess this one up against a Steelers team that couldn’t stop a single running play the Bills ran. Book it!
Come back tomorrow for James Dolan’s personal assistant, Buddy Diaz.
