TAMPA BAY, FL – As the 2026 Fall Classic is underway, I cry for the return of the ticket scalper. I’m talking about the dudes that would hang around the ballpark shouting out the line, “Anyone Selling?”
I miss those guys who would whip out hard copy tickets and negotiate a deal with the desperate fan. Unlike the online scalpers, who are charging a minimum of up to 800 bucks for an obstructed view seat in the upper deck, street scalpers were realistic.
Back in 1981, I attended my first World Series where the NY Yankees hosted the LA Dodgers. It was Game 1 where I snagged a 10 dollar face value bleacher seat for the hefty price of 30 bucks.
Currently the prices in Milwaukee’s secondary market are equivalent to a two month mortgage payment. In Tampa Bay, it’s a rent payment for a month.
All this is going on as the heads of MLB turn their attention elsewhere. They simply don’t give a sh*t! This is their way of telling the fans, who supported them all year, that they’re not wanted inside the ballpark for this best of seven series.

During the Division Series at Tropicana Field, where the Rays were hosting the Yankees, Rays starter Drew Rasmussen was no-hitting the Yankees. I witnessed fans leaving the ballpark in the 7th inning oblivious to the fact of witnessing a post-season rarity. The no-no was broken up in the 8th inning, while plenty of these so-called fans were in the parking lot.
The message is clear: During the month of October, you’re allowed in if you have money to burn.
Loyal Fans Don’t Matter!
