BRONX, NY – Hey-O! Another wondrous Ward Wednesday is upon us! The Midterm Elections are over, Ronald Reagan’s bleached bones are still dealing with dandruff issues, and I voted “NO” on the proposal to make Short Matt’s bald dome the new Times Square New Year’s Eve ball. Let’s get to sports!
Minny QB Too Mini? Count me among those Vikings fans (and others) that think Minnesota needs to give current starting QB, Kyler Murray a little r&r on the bench. Carson Wentz is next up, and he may very well not be the answer, but I do believe he can get the ball to all-world receiver Justin Jefferson better than Murray. Otherwise, I think they need to make a trade, or trades. This year’s team is too good to wait another year.
RIP Jerry Koosman. All-time Mets great Jerry Koosman passed away this past weekend at the age of 83. A southpaw legend, Koosman almost won Rookie of the Year in 1968 with the Mets. That year he went 19-8 with a 2.08 era and got narrowly (and questionably) edged out by Johnny Bench. Too many years later, the Mets finally got around to retiring his number. The Mets would never have won the 1969 series without him. Rest in peace, Kooz.
Early NBA Thoughts. Actually, it’s too early to have any real thoughts about this NBA season but… it has been fun watching my Warriors bounce back from an 0-3 start to win 5 straight. And it was great watching wizard Steph Curry “break” Luka Doncic’s ankles in a great comeback win the other night. In other news, the Knicks are 3-4, but they’ll be fine… except their owner is still a d!ck. The Sixers are 7-1. That’ll change. Out West the Rockets and Grizzlies lead the conference… that’ll change too. Let’s move on.
The Cowboys Lose… Again. As ticked off as I was with the Vikings losing a very winnable game in Detroit on Sunday, that blow was softened by Dallas absolutely choking at home against the Gardner Minshew-led Arizona Cardinals. Seeing Jerry Jones really upset like that, really put me in the Christmas spirit wayyy too early. How ’bout them Cowboys?
2026 NYC Marathon. For the 20th consecutive year I, once again, did NOT run the NYC Marathon. Thank you! It’s better this way. Also there are now far too many runners in this race now, if you can call it that. My old friend Merrell Noden, who used to write Track & Field for Sports Illustrated, called it more a “stunt” than a running test. That said, congrats to all who finished.
Okay, I’m good for today. Come back tomorrow for Buddy Diaz, who will be launching his own political career sometime in 2028.
