MARLBORO, NY – Does anything go by quicker in sports than the NFL season? We’re already staring at the sixth game for mostly all NFL teams today and while I’m usually hitting my stride with my selections against the spread at this juncture, I’ve been a major disappointment at 9-11 for the year. Looking to rebound in a major way, here are today’s goods: FREE NFL Picks from Cheesy Bruin, NFL Notes, Cheerleaders…
FAVORITE The Tennessee Titans would be a dangerous player in the AFC if only they could put more points on the board. Jiminy Cricket, they lost to the Buffalo Bills last week – perhaps because DJ Eberle was there! I don’t know if it’s because of Marcus Mariota’s nagging injury or what but this team gets on it defensively and that’ll keep Mike Vrabel’s squad in just about every game. The AFC North leading Baltimore Ravens pay a visit to Music City and they are coming in off a low scoring defeat of their own. A stout pass defense combined with the Titans inability to score in general have this pointing to a lopsided game in favor of the Ravens. The Pick: Baltimore -2.5 over TENNESSEE
UNDERDOG I’ve seen enough of the Atlanta Falcons games this year to know that the defense is in a world of trouble with all its injuries. Steve Sarkisian’s offense has finally responded out of necessity but they continually fall short of victory lately because of defensive woes that have seen them give up in excess of 37 points in each of the last three games. Enter Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Bucs. While there is some pressure on Winston to perform due to Ryan Fitzpatrick’s early season exploits, it’s time for the young quarterback to put up or shut up and prove he is an NFL caliber starting QB, or else he’s looking at a ticket holding a clipboard as a backup next year. I think the Bucs get ‘er done today. The Pick: Tampa Bay +3 over ATLANTA
OVER The Los Angeles Rams of St. Louis have scored at least 33 points in each of their games this year and show no signs of slowing down. They are a well oiled machine and look every bit the class of the NFC so far. They are seven point favorites at one of the stronger home field sites in the NFL in Denver. The Broncos are struggling on the defensive side of the ball themselves and while we know there is no slowing down the Rams it’s just a matter of Case Keenum putting up enough points to get us a win here with the inflated over/under total. I say yes. The Pick: Rams/DENVER OVER 51.5
UNDER This one just doesn’t make sense to me. The Packers and Niners have both been involved in four of five “Overs” in their games, yet Las Vegas hasn’t adjusted this line to compensate. The total stands at 46.5 and tells me the Vegas wiseguys know something we don’t, and amid reports that Aaron Rodgers suffered a setback in healing his knee woes, this just smells of an under bet. This is my best bet of the week and on the Monday Night stage. The Pick: San Francisco/GREEN BAY UNDER 46.5
That’s it. Comment below if you like and come back tomorrow for Buddy Diaz, who may point out that the Mets cut Justin Turner and how great Carlos Correa will look in Pinstripes.
