EL BARRIO, EL FALLS – Happy Monday... Sports are definitely back in the post COVID way. It is weird abbreviated version but at least WE GOT SPORTS! It gives us something to talk about rather than the woeful response from the World’s [Alleged] Most Advanced Country. Anyway, here is what is on deck for today:  NY Mets, NY Jets, NY Rangers & Buffalo Obituary

New York Mets: The baseball season started about a week ago in the Mets are already in full-season Amazin Mets form. They’ve already started blowing leads, imploding late in the game and now some drama. Yoenis Cespedes, after hitting a home run to start the season, his first bit of action in 2 years, Cespedes was missing all day Sunday. The Mets couldn’t find him and then they said they weren’t worried about his safety. Turns out that he wanted to step away for the rest of 2020 because of the COVID-19. I don’t know how much money they save, how much money he makes. It just to seems so like the Mets, for them to get something back and then take it away.

Gang Green now join the Las Vegas Raiders (yuck to that name) as the only two teams who have no players on their roster from 2011 to 2017 that they drafted in the first round. Essentially, their first round picks from that stretch are no longer with the team. The longest standing first-round draft pick they still have is from 2018, Sam Darnold. Yes, it is incredibly sad but so on brand for the J-E-T-S. The waste of picks and what could have been future is sad but it’s also the Jets, so it’s no surprise. Hopefully the next six-year stretch from 2018 until 2024 might be more useful.

New York Rangers: Hockey’s back so the Rangers are back. Due to a mysterious injury to Igor Shesterkin, they started King Henrik Lundqvist and went on to lose their first game back against the Carolina Hurricanes. He really wasn’t a problem but the defense just seemed a little rusty and not sharp. Carolina was, as you can imagine, just a little quicker to everything. That’s the doldrums. But it was just the first game back and with all of this going on, hopefully the D can be sharpened and the Blueshirts make a good run in the playoffs. I would love for  them to win the abbreviated season so Lundqvist can go out with a title and clear some cap space but New York doesn’t get that lucky in sports, see the previous two paragraphs. So buckle up, it’s going to be an exciting next couple of months.

Buffalo Obituary: Carole Scarsella passed away the other day. Her obituary mentioned the things she loved, the family she left behind and the last statement was that she hated Tom Brady. It’s a standard thing to put in your obituary for Buffalo sports – especially a big Bills fan. Her obituary was so popular that it got in The Buffalo News, who put it on Facebook. Of course that opened the door for idiots to comment. Mrs. Scarsella’s poor family was flooded on FB by Patriots fans showing their lack of class, attacking the lady. Her daughter and nieces came on, determined to add decency but the internet is soulless. Thanks to internet anonymity allowing people to be a jerk, Boston fans still persisted. Eventually, The Buffalo News had to take it down. So our local Boston sports fan, bosoxbruins04, has some explaining to do.

Thanks for reading and come back tomorrow for the Wally Backman of this site, Big Ben Whitney. But first, feel free to comment below.
