NIAGARA FALLS, NY – We are heading towards the countdown to Christmas. I know I skipped Thanksgiving but it’s apparently the same for retailers and my neighbors down the street. Vent over. Here’s today’s talking sports: NY Knicks Update, 111th Grey Cup, NFL NY Recap.
NY Knicks Update
The Knicks just beat the Nets twice in three days – in the NBA Cup. This was formerly called the in-season tournament but everyone who watches Euro sports called it that, and the league finally got the hint and called it that this year. I am waiting for them to add the USABBA Cup to the season, like how soccer nations have a football association cup. Anyway, the Knicks gave some of their bench guys more time, which is rare for Thibs. Injuries and load management factored in, to be fair… The Nets almost won the NBA Cup game but thanks to a block on the last shot by Mikal Bridges, the Knicks got the W. In the game last night, it wasn’t as close as the Knicks pulled away late in the game, despite Karl-Anthony Towns getting 5 fouls and a bad back, the Knicks managed to pull away with a convincing victory.
111th Grey Cup
Thats right, I am talking Canadian Football. That’s the 9-team league north of the USA border. For some reason, I choose to support the Hamilton Tiger Cats because they are close (to where I live) and not always that good. In this edition of the playoff final, we saw the Toronto Argonauts – who had won the Grey Cup more than any other team in the history of the CFL. They won it last year, and after losing their first choice QB Chad Kelly for half the season due to misconduct that the league wouldn’t explain, they turned to back-up Cam Dukes. He got them through until Kelly came back and got them to the playoff semi-final. Then he got hurt. With Dukes also hurt, they turned to back Noah Arhbuckle Nicholas Arbuckle, who closed out the semi. This was behind a dominant defense that got 3 interceptions in the 4th quarter against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. So Toronto are back to back Grey Cup champions.
NFL NY Recap
The Bills became the first team to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday. I am surprised that this game wasn’t a Sunday or Monday night game. The fact that the Chiefs lost if probably good for them as they have to remain sharp. The Chiefs had been surviving on luck all season. They are playing well but they beat the Ravens thanks to a toe that was out of bounds, they got a false start not called against the Bucs and blocked a field goal against the Broncos. I know winning when you don’t play well is the mark of a champion but that luck will eventually run out. Buffalo came out ready and fired-up. They were at home and they hate the Chiefs, who have eliminated them twice. The win will give the Bills fans hope for the playoffs – but we all know this will end in tears.
Thanks for reading and come back tomorrow for Ben Whitney, who will tell you why the Mets won’t get Juan Soto.
