Only the Good Die Young, Mets Playoff Hopes, Fall Sports Season, 2016 Hits Home

Al Sternberg Meet_The_MattsEL BRONX, EL BARRIO – I had tapped out of writing for MTM. Life had gotten in the way of things. Then I realized how lucky I was to have busy life. I felt I had to comeback and write one more time as tribute to FSA (Big Al Sternberg) because he wouldn’t be able to. I won’t be able to top Matt’s heartfelt tribute because he actually knew him, but I think you’ll like the line-up I put together in his honor. That lineup is: Only the Good Die Young, The Mets Playoff Hopes, the Fall Sports Season and 2016 hits home.

Let’s begin with the music…

Only The Good Die Young: I couldn’t think of a better a song and its being performed live at Shea was the cherry on the cake. A few days before I heard about the gravity of the Fake Sandy Alderson (FSA) situation was August 19th, a Friday. Short Matt had a great BBQ at his place. I had a few and I left early to go see my mom because it was the 1-year anniversary of my dad’s death. So I couldn’t think of a more appropriate track. Take a listen…

Now for the sports…

The Mets and The Playoffs: As I type, the Mets are in game 1 of a 10-game home stand. This maybe the home stand that decides the season. They have 10 games against the Phillies, Marlins and Nationals and sit 3.5 games out of a Wild Card spot. It is as close to now or never as it gets, if they want to even dream of fall baseball. With all the bad news going on, it would be nice for the Mets to give us a break and a reason to smile. But these are the Mets and they specialize in heartbreak.  We can only hope they find last year’s form and give us fans a run to remember.

The Fall Sports Season: Not sure whether to give up on the Mets or not but the Fall Sports Season approaches. Unfortunately for me, I am a Jets, Knicks and Rangers fan. This means that Football season will be filled with frustration and eventually end with disappointment. That is what the Jets do best… The Knicks, despite all the hype, will be lucky to get the 8th seed and make the playoffs… As for the Rangers, their season is tough to predict but it definitely won’t end with a trophy. So the Fall Sports Season likely holds nothing but disappointment…

2016 Hits home: The number of celebrity deaths in 2016 was staggering. However, it was never someone we knew. Well know it is and he is only our celebrity. Indeed, as Angry Ward once said, “If you don’t die in 2016, your a nobody.” Well, I take this to mean that Big Al Sternberg will go out a somebody.  And I think it is fitting.

That’s all I have… Please come back tomorrow for a man that knows a thing or two about cancer battles, Cheesy Bruin. And feel free to leave your thoughts below and follow us on Twitter – @JunoirBlaber & @MeetTheMatts and like our Facebook page, Meet The Matts.
