NEW YORK, NY – Halloween is over, which means we all somehow willed ourselves to November. Great job, everyone! Kudos! The NFL Trade Deadline is over too, with the big move being my Minnesota Vikings acquiring journeyman QB Joshua Dobbs from Arizona. Just kidding. Niners getting Chase Young from Washington probably tops that. And now Dak and Dallas REALLY don’t want to see SF again come playoff time. The World Series is chugging along with the Rangers up 2-1 (as of this writing) and Max Scherzer injured again (so, what else is new?). So, what the heck am I supposed to talk about?
James Harden to Clippers. I honestly don’t know how James Harden keeps finding teams interested in him. His latest stop will be back in LA with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Russell Westbrook in what I can only guess is some Hollywood producer’s idea of a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest reboot. I mean, there should be room for Kyrie in this cast too, no?
Hockey. Eh, Ben Whitney covered this yesterday. But this does remind me that we once had a commenter here—I think his name was David?—who constantly used to chime in with: Hockey is a niche sport. I kinda miss that guy. You know who else I miss around here?
Sam’s-a-Fan and West Coast Craig. Sam’s-a-Fan (aka Fluffy the Narwhal) and West Coast Craig used to be MtM (small “t” for JG Clancy) stalwarts, the former an absolute must-read in the comments section almost daily and the latter the author of the brilliant running baseball serial, The Manny, featuring Manny Ramirez and Joe Torre as Mr. Joe. We need to get these dudes back here, even if it’s once a year for some sort of Old Timers’ Day. I’m willing to give up five years’ Matts salary and half of my Matts pension to make it happen. This digital dungeon just ain’t the same without ’em.
Let’s check that trade deadline tracker one more time before I sign off. [clicks over] Nope, looks like I’m still working here and haven’t been dealt to the Peoria Pennysaver, as rumors had been swirling.
Come back tomorrow for Buddy Diaz, who easily could be talking about the 1-3 Knicks, (if they don’t win in Cleveland Tuesday night. Eureka, they won!)
