BALLSTON SPA – With the NBA and NHL seasons finally in the rear-view mirror and NFL training camps a couple of months away, all the attention is on Major League Baseball. Finally! That means this week’s Ebs’ Hot Takes are too!
Call up Aaron Judge: The Bronx Bombers scored no more than two runs in each of their last two games, and they were playing the Minnesota Twins. The freaking Twins! There’s is no denying that the New York Yankees’ offense is struggling.
As a Yankees fan it’s very frustrating. But here’s a solution: Bring up top prospect Aaron Judge! The 24-year-old outfielder finally seems to have mastered the Triple-A level, hitting six home runs in his last eight games and the Yankees are desperate for a boost to the lineup.
Adjusting the Yanks’ batting order is easy. It’s time to move Carlos Beltran to full time Designated Hitter and give Alex Rodriguez some time off. A-Rod isn’t playing anywhere near the level they need him to, and the Bronx Bombers could really use some pop.
The pitching is good enough to get them to the playoffs, it’s the bats that need to catch up.
That Michael Conforto Guy: We all know I’m no New York Mets fan, but my roommate is and I watch a enough of their games and listen to enough podcasts that I feel like I’m in the know (to a degree, at least). So what happened? I thought this kid was as good as Mike Trout and Bryce Harper!
There is hope, though. I feel like this is actually good for Conforto. Something is obviously wrong with him… he could quite possibly be injured. An opportunity to play at the Triple-A level without the bright lights on him for a bit would do him some good. After all, he is just 23.
And all you need to do is look across town to see New York Yankees young pitcher Luis Severino. He struggled this season, just like Conforto. After being sent down to Triple-A, he’s back and seems to have figured things out.
Put Jurickson Profar in the starting lineup: Since we’re talking about young, up-and-coming players, why not continue the conversation with Texas Rangers infielder Jurickson Profar? [Pause] I’m going to take a Vent Minute (MTM tm) here because the Rangers are jeopardizing my fantasy baseball season. Profar is batting .352 with three home runs, eight RBIs and 16 runs scored. For a guy that often bats lead-off when he plays, that’s not too shabby.
However, J-Pro was out of the starting lineup for the second day in a row – and fourth time in the last six games – on Sunday. This guy is valuable in the lineup and can literally play every infield position. Find a spot for him Texas! Jeez!
