EL BARRIO, EL FALLS – Normally, I say Happy Monday but you can’t really say that day because it’s Memorial Day. We make it a happy day but it should really be a somber day. It is a holiday to remember all those that make/made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of this country. Like the armed forces saying goes, “…all gave some but some gave all,” so I want to take a moment to recognize all the brave Americans who died in service of his country. From Crispus Attucks to Teddy Roosevelt, Jr. to Humayun Khan and everybody in between, thank you for your service, your willingness and belief in the American ideal – to the point of laying down your life. And that’s why we get to do stuff, like talk sports. With that, here’s today’s menu: No Flack Flacco, The Match, What Sports Are On.

No Flack Flacco – I know Short Matt thinks this is the beginning of some sort of quarterback controversy, considering that the Jets just signed Joe Flacco. But really, it’s a smart move to have a back-up, even though it’s a one-year contract. Sam Darnold has gone down for a few games in each of his first two seasons. Actually, for the 32 teams in the league, the back-up usually has a start or two every for like 80% of teams, so having a quality #2 is important. The J-E-T-S have seen that the last two seasons. Falco’s coming off an injury, so his availability for the start of the season is a little bit of an issue. The only other choices were David Fales, who’s thrown maybe 10 NFL passes and fourth-round pick James Morgan, who will be on clipboard duty all season. Now they have a steady and capable backup, should anything happen to Sam the man.

The Match –  Covid or no covid. I never cared or wanted to watch golf. This match-up of Tiger Woods & Peyton Manning vs Phil Mickelson & Tom Brady doesn’t interest me. Apparently Tompa Brady had some sort of wardrobe malfunction when his pants slipped. In this sports-news-starved-world, that was a story. Whatever. I have no idea who won but if you watched feel free to comment. But  for me it was just pure nonsense and I couldn’t be bothered with a virtual fist bump.

What Sports Are On – That golf thing shows that people are desperate for sports and my answer is a mix of South Korean baseball, German soccer, and NASCAR – along with ESPN documentaries. The German soccer is pretty good. I never watch NASCAR and documentaries like The Last Dance are helping… Basketball is definitely coming back. Baseball will eventually come back but the universal DH is looming and I’m livid and disgusted about that. I was able to deal with it when one side had it. Not both.
