COLTS NECK, NJ – The NFL Week began Week #2 on Thursday when the Washington Football Team out lasted the New York Giants. This was actually an entertaining contest. Danny Dimes Jones was emulating Lamar Jackson by running for a team leading 95 yards on nine carries and one rushing TD, in addition to completing 22/32 for 249 and a throwing TD to Darius Slayton. The only issue here was that the Giants forgot how to hold a lead when the game was over. They allowed The Football Team to march downfield to steal the contest with a last-minute field goal, taken twice, due to another dumb penalty. How’s that for sucking, Short Matt? While you ponder my colleague’s reply, here are my FREE NFL Picks & Key Games. Some will certainly evoke some spirited opinions but here we go:
NFC East coast vs West Coast Battle:
49ers at Philadelphia Eagles
This will be a nice fight with both teams coming in at 1-0. Its Jimmy Garoppolo/Trey Lance vs Jalen Hurts at Lincoln Financial. Buddy Diaz’s Iggles have an improved offensive line which slows down the opponent’s pass rush. With time to throw, Hurts proved to be a very able passer, tossing three touchdowns last week versus the perennially disappointing Falcons. Hurts will have some great opportunity air it out to rookie first round pick DeVonta Smith. Look for Miles Sanders to get the ball early and if successful, pound on the Niner defense all day. On the other sideline, Garroppolo must be aware that the Philly front seven can get after QB’s and create havoc. Journeyman Alfred Morris hopes to have another respectable outing in quest to find a permanent home before he hangs up the cleats. George Kittle, Mohamed Sanu, and Deebo Samuel must be able to break down a less than stellar Eagles’ back line.
49ers 28- Eagles 24
New England Patriots vs NY Jets
This may just be an upset special. Call me crazy but the Jets have a chance to facilitate an 0-2 start for the Patriots. Zach Wilson recovered nicely after a rough first half last week. He was under pressure most of the game but managed to show signs that he has what it takes to win. If Doctor Evil – aka Bill Belichick – continues his success against rookie signal callers it will be another long afternoon at the ugliest stadium in the NFL. Mac Jones will be handing the ball off often in the run by committee Pats offense. However, beware of James White on the swing passes. When they need the ball downfield, Nelson Agholor, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Henry will be his go to targets along with a questionable Jonnu Smith. Junoir Blaber’s J-E-T-S will have to bring some pressure to have a chance in this game. Look for Wilson to connect with Corey Davis or Elijah Moore to stretch out the defense while Tevin Coleman, Michael Carter and Ty Johnson battle for snaps.
Jets 20- Patriots 17
Now for the game that most fans are waiting for!
Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens will always be relevant as long as Lamar Action Jackson is on the pitch. Picking up 86 yards on the ground Monday night against the Raiders, he added 235 passing yards and a TD in a losing effort. Look for more running from Lamar along with Ty’son Williams in an attempt to keep the ball away from Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill! This one will be physical but KC takes it by a touchdown.
Chiefs 35- Ravens 28
That is about it for this week, as I am three long-pour wines in. Just for the record, I believe that the Chargers will defeat Dallas 28 -20. The NFC Least continues to swim in the sea of mediocrity.
Chime in with your favorite match up and be sure to come back tomorrow for Junoir Blaber, who only sucks when it comes to removing the venom from killer snake bites. Look it up.
