Giants Historic Collapse, World Series Preview, NBA Gambling Problem

PORT JEFF, NY –  Wow! Did you see the latest NYC mayoral debate?! No? Neither did I. Let’s talks sports. Here’s what’s on the slate: Giants Historic Collapse, World Series Preview, NBA Gambling Problem

Giants Historic Collapse

The Giants’ historic collapse has been covered extensively this week, but I can’t help discussing what happened. The New York Giants suffered one of the worst collapses in sports history, surrendering 33 points in the fourth quarter. As a Giants fan, this felt like so much more than just a game. Since Eli Manning’s retirement, the Giants have lacked signature wins to usher in a new era. This could have been one, especially after their 34-17 victory over the defending champs. With all the trash talk leading up to the matchup, facing a playoff team on the road, this game could have solidified the Giants as a legitimate threat, even with a 3-4 record. Instead, it became one of the worst in-game collapses in franchise history. Despite rookie QB Jaxson Dart’s heroics, DC Shane Bowen repeatedly dropped too many into coverage, allowing Bo Nix to make big play after big play to seal the win.

World Series Preview

It’s hard to believe baseball season is almost over. This year, the World Series features the Blue Jays and the Dodgers. Unsurprisingly, the Dodgers are representing the NL once again, boasting the best starting rotation in baseball and a top three lineup of Betts, Freeman, and Ohtani. The Dodgers are clear favorites to win. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have been a bit of a surprise, narrowly edging out the Yankees for the AL East title and defeating them again to advance to the League Championship Series, where they overcame the Mariners. The Blue Jays have a shot in this series thanks to their incredible offense. Regardless of the pitching, their lineup and bullpen give them a chance to pull off an upset.

NBA Gambling Problem

Jackson Sternberg

The NBA’s betting problem has resurfaced, with Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups now embroiled in a scandal. After the Jontay Porter incident, it seemed like Adam Silver had taken strong measures to curb gambling within the league. However, just a year later, both a current player and coach are allegedly involved. Fixing this issue of sports gambling by those within the game seems daunting, especially with so many teams and networks partnering with gambling sites. Let’s hope this is the last time such a controversy arises for a while.
