Saturday Football Special: Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Eric Reid And Nick Foles. Sports Rain Man Junoir Blaber is talking football... and soccer. Meet_The_Matts

EL BARRIO, EL FALLS: Welcome to my Saturday Football Special. Today, I have three bits revolving around football, one will be about the real version of it that requires foot to ball action all the time and the other two will be the throw-ball version. Here is what is on the menu for today: Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Eric Reid And Nick Foles.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer:
If you are wondering who he is, he is a Manchester United fan favorite because of how hard he played and his ability to score goals. He is also best remembered for coming on late and scoring the game-winner in an epic comeback when “we” were down 2 goals with 15 minutes left in the European Champions League final in 1999. Since he retired, he worked as a youth coach and headed up the reserves before leaving for Norway to be a head coach there. Now, with his old club in a bind – the one he still calls home – he signed on to be the caretaker manager. That’s British for temp, until the end of the season.

How did this come about? Man United is a business that just realized they should have adapted to what the competition has been doing for the past 5 years. So, they decided that in year 6 of a 3 year re-build, it was time to blow it up and get with the program. This season is lost to upper management. They have outside chance at Top 4 – more likely Top 6 – but you have key players not trying to talk about A) re-signing until Jose Mourinho (the recently fired coach) is gone and B) the world’s most expensive transfer (free agent ) rotting on the bench. With all of that, how do you still keep fan excitement and get bums in seats? Change the manager! But no one you really want is available now?! Then give them OGS, by Jove! As a United fan, I for one am super excited to have Ole back home. It gives the miserable-looking remainder of the calendar something to be happy about.

Eric Reid: The NFL drug test is suppose to be random. To make sure they catch players cheating. Explain that to Eric Reid. The Carolina Panthers defensive back has been “randomly tested” 6 out of the last 11 weeks! Reid believes that it is just the league trying to get back at him as he has a pending collusion case against the NFL that alleges owners conspired to keep him out of the league for kneeling alongside former San Francisco 49ers teammate Colin Kaepernick during the national anthem to protest social and racial injustice. So now the NFL has allegedly decided to be mobsters and make Reid’s life difficult for no reason. Reid, as expected, is standing tall and not backing down. He will continue to give depositions, then go to work playing the game he loves. Besides, when he wins his lawsuit, he will have the last laugh.

Nick Foles: If Nick Foles leads the Eagles to the playoffs, he has to be considered the greatest back-up QB of all time. There have been back-ups that have done the job – like Frank Reich – but two straight playoff runs, including one Super Bowl is ridiculous. Considering the kind of money people are paying for unproven talent, it has to be noted that when Foles enters free agency, he should be the best player on the market and should be worth more than someone like Joe Flaco. It will be interesting to see who gives him the keys but suitors will be lining up.
