BRONX, NY – So, because I live in the Bronx, it’s kinda a given that you’re gonna run into your fair share of New York Yankees fans, pretty much… every… single… day. And boy oh boy do they like to talk! I go to a gym (surprising, I know!) and there’s a trainer there (very nice guy) who has been happy ever since the Knicks won their first championship in forever, and that happiness has carried over into the Yankees sweeping the Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs. During that series (if you can call it that) he walked in every day saying “Great day today. Oh yeah.” So, anyway, I’ve been out of town for a few days, as the Yanks/Rays series got going, but I went in today knowing I would not say one word. It didn’t matter because he wasn’t there. But I will continue to stay in the “Cone of Silence” until that series gets sorted out. It’s almost Halloween, and I prefer to wait until the vampire movie is over before I start talking about it. That’s just me. Let’s move to football.
AFC East Will Have Two Playoff Teams. The Jets and Dolphins are garbage, so this is an easy thing to predict. It’s not fair, but life is rarely fair. The Jets will thankfully be bad until the end of days. Miami will at least have maybe one good year in the next three. The beneficiaries, as always, Buffalo and New England.
The Philadelphia Eagles are Done. The Iggles had the Rams dead to rights last Sunday and somehow lost. Now their all-everything right tackle, Lane Johnson, is doing the right thing and calling it a career. I can’t believe I’m saying this but, the Giants might just win the NFC East. The Cowboys could, but they still suck.

Football in Minnesota! Spent a fun three days in Minneapolis this past weekend. Great sports weekend for the Twin Cities. The Golden Gophers beat Michigan to win the “Little Brown Jug” game, the Wild beat the Boston Bruins later that night, and I watched my offensively-challenged Vikings go to 4-0 by narrowly beating the Dolphins on Sunday. By the way, go to just about any other NFL stadium to see just how awful MetLife Stadium is out in East Rutherford, NJ. I assure you, it will depress you… I mean even more than the usual depression associated with being a Jets or Giants fan.
Okay, as I’m winding this up, the Rangers and Islanders in a one-goal game at The Garden. [Spoiler Alert: Rangers won]… Maybe something to discuss tomorrow. But, as my pal JG Clancy would say, it’s too early to talk hockey. He would also say “what’s a rubgy?”
Come back tomorrow for Buddy Diaz.
