DENVER, CO – It’s firing season! Coaches are jumping on carousels. NBA contracts aren’t being renewed. Entire baseball leagues are disappearing left and right. NCAA football coaches are actively avoiding scheduling a game for posterity at the next negotiation. BUT… Personally, 99% of coaches and players out there get a pass this year from me. How can you fire in such an anomalous year where the results of truncated seasons and slashed rosters? Doesn’t matter the powers that be are still making those calls. So, here is the best headline ever: #COVID Carousel Hot Seat Hot Takes: Who Should Get Fired, Who Should Stay.
Adam Gase
FIRED! I am not spending time on this one. It’s too easy and I figured it had to be mentioned.
JJ Barea
STAYS! JJ got released by the Mavs at thirty-six years young this week. The 5’10” fan favorite is now relegated to Spanish-language used car adds in Fort Worth for a source of income. I hate this. The guys stats didn’t really drop off. In fact his career was fourteen years of the same thing every year. Eight points, a few assists, that’s about it. Let him do that forever. I want to be watching the NBA Finals in ten years and he is the old fart eating four minutes a game.
Vick Fangio
FIRED! I think he goes. I also think it will be at least mutual – or Vick might walk off the job and quit. John Elway is the worst boss on the planet. The kind that expects alchemy from crap. He will be a Chiefs Super Bowl-winning assistant next year.
Jim Harbough
STAYS! Jim stays because he deserves to get beaten to a bloody pulp in the Big 10 next year. The rumor mill is that Michigan had the roster and COVID clearance to play Ohio State and chose not too. Why would they not chose to play? Probably because they were thirty-point dogs to The Ohio State. Harbough gets to stay so his cowardly self can lose sixty to zero next year.
Minor League Baseball
STAYS! Kinda… Sadly forty lower level clubs have been disbanded. I hate this but it is what’s best for the athlete and the sport. It’s rare for 95% of the Single A teams to ever make the show. These kids are better off finding out they won’t make the show at 23 than 29. For the ones that want to keep playing, the Frontier League will go way up in quality.
Doug Peterson
FIRED! Ole Dougie Fresh has to get fired. He has to get fired because they have to go back to Buddy Diaz’s boy Carson Wentz next season. Wentz is sixty million in dead cap money if they cut him and no team – except the Colts – would entertain trading for him for next year. Even the ugly ex-wives get half in the divorce. Wentz finds a new man this offseason.
Me
That’s all I have today, so I’m going. Comment below and come back tomorrow for Short Matt, who is looking to fill JJ Barea’s spot in those Spanish-language commercials.
